The intent is reasonable: accountability today can be slow, inconsistent, and difficult to access, but the framing is wrong. Trust cannot be retrofitted at the point of correction. What gets called "friction", review, verification, editorial challenge, is not a flaw in the model. It is what produces credibility in the first place, and it is why editorial standards exist. Compress that work and you do not get faster trust. You get faster judgement, applied unevenly, and a new surface for pressure. The deeper shift in trust mediation is upstream of all this. Large language models and AI search systems now sit between information and interpretation. They do not retrieve neutrally. They weigh by signals of authority, consistency, and historical credibility, and they decide, in effect, which sources are surfaced as canonical and which are not. AI does not create trust. It amplifies it. It is determined by whether you are recognised as a credible source before the story is ever written. Whether your expertise is attributable. Whether your positions are coherent over time.
